One in six new cases last week was vaccinated

New provincial data shows that fully vaccinated people made up 16.6 per cent of new COVID-19 cases in B.C. last week.
Between Aug. 16 and 22, 680 fully vaccinated people tested positive for the disease, compared to 2,870 unvaccinated people (70.2 per cent) and 541 partially vaccinated people (13.2 per cent).
Over the last two weeks (Aug. 9 to 22), 108 unvaccinated people (77.7 per cent), 11 partially vaccinated people (7.9 per cent) and 20 fully vaccinated people (14.4 per cent) were hospitalized due to COVID-19.
Health officials also reported 641 new cases of COVID-19, one of which is epidemiologically linked. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 161,271 cases.
Of the new cases, 125 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 149 in the Fraser Health region, 53 in the Island Health region, 273 in the Interior Health region, 39 in the Northern Health region and two new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.
There are 5,357 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. and 138 of those people are hospitalized, 78 of whom are in intensive care.
To date, 7,351,471 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 3,482,876 of those are second doses.
This means that 84.1 per cent of adults and 83.3 per cent of people aged 12 and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 76.3 per cent of adults and 75.1 per cent of those aged 12 and older have received two doses.
There were no new virus-related deaths reported today.
One healthcare facility outbreak was declared over. Active outbreaks continue at six long-term care facilities, five assisted or independent living facilities and one acute care facility.
